torture

I do not believe in torture unless the terrorist is proven guilty first. Even if someone is 75% positive that a criminal has committed an act I do not think you should torture that person. There is always that 25 percent chance that the person has done nothing wrong. As Americans we should be leaders and not follows. It is our job to show that we will not stoop so low as to torture innocent people, just because they look, act, or have Muslim last names. It would be wrong to assume that just because of where they came from.

Knowing when to stop is important too. If a terrorist is found after torturing, would it be right to torture their families, and friends? Being in America means that you are innocent until proven guilty. After one is proven guilty and still refuses to give out information, then I would agree with torture. However, if a person is proved innocent, then torture wouldn’t be an option. The one thing I don’t stand for is unnecessary punishment. As Americans, or citizens, setting an example for other countries is very important. If we set the example and others follow, the world would be a better place.

My Soul

Tracing back my soul to 1785

Is very interesting to see

Where I’ve been alive

In London I’ve had tea

With Monica Dickens, the one who liked to write,

May 10th 1915, born a fighter

December 25th 1992, died in the night

I’ve always wanted to be a writer

In hopes to make myself a little brighter.

Illonois was a sight to see

I couldn’t contain all my glee

Albert Spalding’s colors where back and white

His baseball team won without a fright

Born September 2nd 1850

September 9th 1815, his death was really nifty

Losing a game now and then is no shame

I always say, it’s how you play the game

I’ve been to Gloucestershire

My Chemist gene I aspired

William Prout was his name

January 15th 1785- he came

1850, April 9th was the day he passed,

I’m so glad we share the love of atomic mass.

Venice is my last stop

This place is hard to top

I’ve learned how to paint from Pietro Longhi

Who was married to Cathrina Rizzi

November 5th, 1701 was his birth

May 8th 1785, his last day on earth.

For some people its plain to see

Where I get my artistic ability.

I’ve been to many places

Traveling so much allowed me to meet so many faces

Knowing where I descended from put me at ease

Who can be upset with people as great as these?

Cilantro

Cilantro in it’s natural form looks very similar to parsley. One whiff and you can see that you were clearly wrong. This lemony, piece of green smells anything but good. One would thing citrus would smell great, but not in cilantro. Though it does smell fresh, the mint in the green little sprig masks it. This headache inducing herb, is sure to make someone who has a strong sense of smell, sick.

Along with its’ terrible smell, the taste isn’t much different. When first put into the mouth, one would think it were parsley. However, one chew and the taste is released – or should I say tasteless? It has a soapy, leafy taste that it accompanied by an aftertaste. This makes the average person cringe.  Who knew that a small inoffensive leafy green could be so lethal

Cell Phone

Kelly Mcintyre’s cell phone is very special to her. It keeps her from getting bored in class, but it also gets her into trouble. One day her plan was up on her cell phone, so she needed a new one. It took her a long time to figure out which one she wanted. She tried out at least ten different phones before choosing this one. She finally landed her eyes on this shiny new phone and just had to have it.  By all the scratches and dents, this phone has been through a lot with her. Taking it home, she couldn’t help but bring it everywhere with her, even to the beach with her friends. She had so much fun at the beach that she even wrote anything and everything in the sand. Taking out that trusty phone from her beach bag, she took a picture. Little did she know that later that day, that same picture would be the wallpaper of her favorite phone. Almost as if she was telling this to her phone, she wrote I <3>

What can I say? I get beaten, and thrown, lost, and found. Everyday for seven hours I am in this suffocating backpack, only seeing the sun when she occasionally takes me out to use me during class. I hear the teachers yelling at her to put me away, but she doesn’t. She hides me for a while and waits for that stupid teacher to look away. And at home? I am on all the time. I guess you can say we spend the majority of the day together. I can’t say I don’t feel the love, because I do, but sometimes it’s just too much. Will she ever put me down and give me a rest. I grow weak by the end of the day and finally get some relief when I can’t keep my eyes open any longer and close my eyes.

Macbeth

When Mr. Morone first announced we were reading I thought, “How am I going to do this?” Macbeth, by William Shakespeare is a very complex, confusing book. Though it takes sometime to figure out what everyone is saying, it is very intriguing. Sometimes the longer it takes you to figure something out, the better the outcome. It also helps that every few paragraphs or so, we talk about what we have just read. It makes the book more enjoyable when we discuss what their complex diction means. For me, this book is in the middle of like and hate. Lady Macbeth though one would think was kind and considerate is actually the opposite. She has very vulgar mind. Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to kill Duncan. She also portrays to be a much stronger person than his husband, Macbeth and is more willing to fight than him. While just reading the first act, I can’t say I relate to any of them. Most of the characters actions is about fighting and getting the throne. Though I understand people have to fight for what they want, but I think they could go about it in a different way. So far the book isn’t that confusing. Mr. Morone answers all of our questions. In scene two I think Duncan will be killed by Lady Macbeth instead of Macbeth. I don’t think Macbeth will have the guts to do it.

Quality of Like Beats Quality of Mercy

The article of Quality of Like Beats Quality of Mercy is a very interesting article. It deals with unfair punishment.  It seems like the more awful the crime, the easier they are on the punishment. In the first paragraph, a ten year old gets shot, but the media doesn’t even care. In the second paragraph a person is convicted of adultery. The punishment was ten minutes in jail. That doesn’t seem fair, does it? The last person gets a parking ticked and he has to pay. We does the law apply for him and not others. A limousine driver parked in front of a fire hydrant. One would think this would get proper punishment too, but since he was in the car, the police officer let him go. Why should the law be exempt for everyone else except the man who got a parking ticket?

Teen Inc

Two months ago, I sent one of my essays to TeenInc.com not really expecting much to come out of it. Today (January 29, 2009) at exactly 1:20 I get an email saying I was published on their website. I couldn't contain my excitement. I imedatly wrote a letter to my English teacher, and now that I look back on it, I started with OMG. It wasn't something a person should start a sentence with when writing to an English teacher, but I couldn't think of a better way to do it. It would mean a lot to me if everyone reads and reviews it. The more people who rate can help me get published in their magazine. Click the link below. Thanks!

Cat on a Vacuum

It was like a game of cat and mouse

Only it was cat and vacuum

A chase as they twirled around the house

Going swiftly around the room.

Spinning, whirling, twirling, round, and round

Trying to conquer the unbeatable mission

The black paw gave a powerful pound

As the act went on in demolition.
